Have to Love Active aims to revolutionise women’s sportwear by offering premium quality sportswear at a fraction of the price.
Business partners Kate Walton and Paul Monaghan formed Have to Love Active on the belief that the business could not only produce ethically sourced, premium quality sportswear but that in doing so it could also raise money for charities that help combat breast cancer.
Have to Love Active came into being following a chance meeting between Kate and Paul. Paul had been dealing with suppliers abroad and Kate was looking to expandon her already successful business.
Kate was well versed in dealing with women’s fashion having already built her brand, Have to Love, in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne. She has a long history of success with the brand. As well as women’s clothing, Kate has also designed handbags that were bought by the likes of Victoria Beckham, Cheryl Cole and many other celebrities.
During a chance meeting in 2017, Paul discovered he and Kate had a mutual passion for fashion and fitness. With Paul’s love for business and passion for building brands, Paul and Kate decided to go into business together and build a premium brand of women’s sportswear.
Kate states “The idea was always to offer premium quality fitness clothing but at a faction of the price that the main stream sellers would charge. In order to achieve that goal, we needed to find the best possible fabric. We searched far and wide for that and in doing so we made sure that the fabrics were ethically sourced.”
The ethos of the business is particularly close to the hearts of Kate and Paul, with both being affected by cancer. Kate was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 34. Paul’s auntie sadly passed away at the age of 30 from cancer.
After realising there were very few companies selling premium quality women’s sportswear and after seeing how few of those raised awareness for women with breast cancer, Have to Love Active was formed.
The business is particularly important to Kate and her desire to use the platform to raise awareness of women with breast cancer, particularly those under the age of 50. Kate has produced videos on how to check your breasts which have been shared on many social media platforms. With her passion for health and fitness, her fashion business and Paul’s business background, it was only logical to donate 10% of all sales to breast cancer awareness charities.
Kate explains “We wanted to create a stylish activewear brand that fits, whether it’s for the gym or for coffee with friends. The fact that we are pushing a premium brand at a fraction of the price is a real selling point but for me, if we can raise breast cancer awareness at the same time it’s an absolute bonus.”
The Have to Love Active collection launches on 30 March 2019 and will raise money for charities that combat breast cancer and raise awareness.
Paul said “We decided at the outset that the main focusof our business was to give back and help others. Sadly, cancer is a disease that effects too many people. We made the bold decision to donate 10% of all sales to charities that combat breast cancer and raise awareness. I know Kate has been deeply affected by breast cancer and its incredible to see her turn that into a positive. Our aim is to make change happen and we intend doing this through our donations and by raising awareness. If we can help save one person from going through what Kate has gone through, all of the hard work will have been worth it.”
The Have to Love Active collection includes sports bras, leggings, t-shirts, compression tops and hoodies. The business also plans to launch additional products throughout the summer. All fabrics are ethically sourced and proceeds from each sale goes to combat breast cancer.
